Castelfidardo, origin of the Accordion

The music industry has been developing in Castelfidardo for a long time.

Castelfidardo was inhabited by an Italian people called "Piceni" before the city was occupied by the Romans in the 3rd century. After the barbarian invasions in the 11th century, the inhabitants of Castelfidardo decided to build a castle, which kept getting different names. The most famous, however, was "De Castro Ricardo". During the conflicts in the Middle Ages between the Guelphs and the Ghibellines, the town was taken and besieged by the Guelphs. After several large Italian families had Castelfidardo in their power, the church took control again. In 1513 and 1517 Castelfidardo was attacked by the troops of Paolo Vitelli and Francesco Maria della Rovere. Finally, in 1550, Castelfidardo's independence was declared and thus, after countless occupations and bad years, the town was able to grow economically. In the following years, Castelfidardo became a pioneer in the textile industry. In the 17th century, however, the next period of political and economic upheaval began. At this time, the administration of the "Santa Chiesa" gained more and more control over Castelfidardo. The lordship controlled the entire agricultural economy. At the same time, the population also grew very strongly. However, the town was up to the task and was quickly able to build new houses for the new future inhabitants. The 18th century finally marked the beginning of the modern era. The economy flourished due to good agriculture. Religion has always played an important role in Castelfidardo, but it was at this time that religion became more and more important due to the Pope. In the middle of the 19th century, the production of the accordion began and the economic growth increased significantly. From then on, the focus was on industrial growth and no longer on agriculture. The population continued to grow and in 1988 Castelfidardo was recognised as an official town with a population of 19,000. Nowadays Castelfidardo has some well-known companies in the accordion and music industry. Translated with www.DeepL.com/Translator (free version)
